I ate like Kourtney Kardashian for five days

Don’t worry I didn’t eat a placenta

Kourtney Kardashian’s diet is  known by many people, especially Kardashian enthusiasts, like myself. Kourtney sticks to a plant based diet with no dairy or gluten. On top of her strict diet, she also works out everyday. People wonder about the validity of her pictures and how she always looks so good, but I can infer there is little to no photoshopping going on, she just actually looks that good after eating basically nothing but leaves. Eating like her for five days was definitely a tough challenge and I can be honest in saying there definitely was some cheating going on.

Day 1

Starting out, I was filled with confidence, because I didn’t think my normal diet was unhealthy. I started out the day with the most important meal, breakfast. I had an egg white omelette with broccoli. Now my first problem arouse when I realized I couldn’t put cheese in it,  because of Kourtney’s no dairy policy. Imagine eating an omelette without cheese, it is like eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly. To top it off, I added a slice of cantaloupe.

Then lunch time rolled around and it was time to start the main part of this diet, eating plant based foods. So, what comes to mind when you think of eating plants? Salad. My first salad was from Salads Up and it consisted of: mixed greens, shrimp, brussel sprouts, banana peppers, black beans, cucumbers, corn, carrots, and cauliflower. After all of these toppings, you can take a guess and assume my salad was about fifteen dollars. Eating healthy is definitely expensive.

For dinner, I had a grilled chicken breast with broccoli and brussel sprouts on the side. This was definitely delicious, but it was so hard not getting dessert or late night snacking. Night time was definitely the biggest struggle.

Day 2

For breakfast today, I had Bob’s gluten free Red Mill oatmeal. To keep this option dairy free as well, I just added water to it instead of milk. This oatmeal comes in many different flavors too, so throughout the week I was able to keep it interesting.

Lunch day two consisted of another salad with spinach, kale, corn, quinoa, black beans, and red pepper  from Forage. Forage is one of my favorite places in Madison for healthy eating because all of their ingredients are organic from local farms.

When it came time for dinner on Tuesday and chicken was no longer an option at Dejope that night, things got a little tricky because Kourtney doesn’t prefer to eat red meat. Eating in the dining hall makes eating on a diet tough because you don’t always get to choose what you eat. To substitute, though, I chose to get a hamburger, but eat it without cheese or the bun. I put a nice piece of lettuce and some dejon mustard on it and inhaled it.

Day 3

Breakfast on the third day included another delicious Dejope egg white omelette with spinach. I feel sorry for the poor student workers who have to crack each egg individually and make sure no yolk falls in.

Lunch then consisted of an acai bowl from Forage. This bowl has bananas, strawberries, goji berries, and granola on top of the acai. These bowls are so good, but they are indeed a bit small for my liking.

Due to the acai bowl not filling me up, I threw in a healthy snack. I chose to eat an apple and peanut butter as a filler until dinner time. This is an all time favorite snack of mine.

For dinner, I made a stop at the stir fry bar in Dejope. I made a nice bowl of chicken stir fry with broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, edamame, mushrooms, and chicken broth. This was another great dinner that got my vegetables and chicken into it and also tasted really good.

Day 4

Breakfast today again included Bob’s gluten free Red Mill oatmeal. I can never get sick of this stuff, seriously so good.

Lunch was another type of salad from Salads Up. It included spinach, banana peppers, red pepper, carrots, broccoli, and brussel sprouts. On this day I needed a little pick me up, so I threw in a latte from Colectivo.

Day four dinner included some more grilled chicken and broccoli. At this point dinner wasn’t my favorite time of the day, to say the least.

Day 5

I made it! Today was a day of more repeats.

For breakfast I had another egg white omelette with spinach and red pepper.

Lunch consisted of another salad from Salads Up. I decided to take it to the terrace and soak up my day five salad with some beautiful scenery. This salad had romaine lettuce, carrots, corn, cucumber, and lemon squeeze as the dressing. Eating with a beautiful scenery definitely makes eating more fun.

The last supper included another round of delicious stir fry from Dejope.

Over all, being on a diet in college is one of the hardest things to do, especially in Wisconsin. There is the constant temptation of going out to eat and getting what tastes best, rather than what is best for you. Kourtney Kardashian’s diet is definitely harder than normal dieting, but experimenting with it just gave me that much more respect for her.

During and after the diet, I felt more awake and ready to take on my days. I never had the feeling of being too full or sick from my last meal and that honestly made the world of a difference. Major props to Kourtney K, the hottest looking thirty-seven year old mom out there.
