Ewan McGregor just ditched Good Morning Britain because of Piers Morgan’s comments on the Women’s March

Here’s a thought. Maybe he should quit???

Ewan McGregor no-showed on Good Morning Britain this morning. He was due to appear as part of a promotional push for his new film Trainspotting 2, but then he realised he’d have to be in the same room as and interact with Piers Morgan so he reconsidered, which is fair enough really.

In response Piers tweeted that he was disappointed because Ewan McGregor should have attended, because he’s “just an actor”. The whole thing is obviously great on Ewan McGregor’s part, and people on Twitter are here for it.

Ewan McGregor aside though, this isn’t the first time Piers Morgan’s mere existence has caused trouble for his breakfast TV show. When he tweeted his original stupid comments about the Women’s March over the weekend his co-anchor Susanna Reid replied: “You know you sit next to a feminist every morning right?” On Monday’s show he flailed to defend himself, saying: “It doesn’t mean you don’t support women’s rights. I’m a feminist, don’t choke on your cornflakes, sisters.”

Then there was the time he laughed in a love-me-daddy! kind of way when, mid-interview with Donald Trump the POTUS challenged Sadiq Khan to an IQ test. Earlier this month, he reduced a guest to tears when he called her “the worst kind of parent” on his show. She later called him a “vicious bully”. If you’ve never seen him on morning TV, this is his standard style of creepy uncle interviewing when he’s not screaming at crying mums or tweeting about how much he hates women.

  • Here’s a thought about all of this: maybe Piers Morgan should just quit? I’m not convinced that there’s a caveat which means his presence on our screens every morning should continue. He’s not funny, he’s not a good interviewer, he’s not particularly clever and callow as it might sound – though it is the only other reason for being on TV – he’s not particularly nice to look at. Maybe he should just throw in the towel.

Look, 51 is a good an age as any to retire. Take a holiday, Piers, you deserve it.
