It is a truth universally acknowledged that the moment you nail one ‘social-media-trend’ pose – for instance, that open mouth thing that everyone was obsessed with for a while – a new one will take over and you’ll struggle with that for the next Summer, finally nailing it as the sun fades and winter comes to crush your spirit once again.
This year, it’s the “Bambi pose”. You’ve probably spotted the starts of it on your Instagram feed already. It looks like this:
Essentially, it’s just sitting a bit like an awkward deer, but in a sexy way (your bent legs are supposed to look like Bambi’s front ones). Personally, I think it looks great, and supposedly it’s the perfect way to show off – or pretend you have – some enviable thigh brows.
Several outlets have lauded the bambi as the “new fingermouthing”, the craze from last year also known as “Hepburning”, where you framed the bottom half of your face while pretending it didn’t remind you of Salad Fingers and it looked cool and hot.
Supposedly though the Bambi pose – which was obviously championed by Instagram oracle and lip mogul Kylie Jenner all the way back in January – is a surprisingly body positive fad. Look writes: “It’s also another wave in the amazing body-positive movement that’s sweeping the internet right now. Because, it’s pretty natural to sport a thighbrow. Just another reason to start loving your body.”
And even the Daily Mail (no, really) praised the trend, writing: “Unlike thigh gaps, bikini bridges, and the collarbone club — which saw people uploading selfies to show how many coins they can hold with their collarbones — the thighbrow is universal to all body types and doesn’t aim to highlight how thin a person it.”
We are through the looking glass now.
So at least when you spend the rest of your summer awkwardly crouching on loungers, teetering over the edge and demanding your friends do fifty retakes, you can say you’re being body positive while doing it. Great.
