It’s time to turn TF up for feminist icon Kim Possible’s 15th birthday

Kim is a baddie

Remember this bitch?

Kim Possible premiered for the first time 15 years ago today and proved to a bunch of young viewers that being a girl is kinda badass. Before you do the math to calculate how old you are and fall into an existential dread, here’s just a list of reasons why we need to celebrate Kim Possible as THE most feminist Disney show to date.

Kim was super strong and capable

Kim always fought her own battles. She was a karate master, a gymnast, and had GREAT aim. She didn’t need any help taking down super villains which just screams strength.

She was always saving Ron

To prove how strong Kim is, Disney threw in a basically useless sidekick for her to always have to guide and protect. Then, they made that sidekick a man. Kim saving Ron flipped superhero gender stereotypes on their head – proving women can be the hero and men can ask for help.

She also somehow had it all?

Not only was Kim a hero, she was also a student, sister, and cheerleader. Like, Kim was the girl everyone wanted to be in High School. And she did it flawlessly. This part of her character just emphasized women don’t have to limit themselves or put themselves in a box because they’re only ‘allowed’ to be one thing.

Her arch nemesis was just as strong

If you didn’t have a childhood crush on Shego, you’re lying. This woman literally ran circles around Draken and continuously held her own against Kim — all while wearing a fly bodysuit. Can I be her?

She also had an attitude that screamed IDGAF unless I am doing what I want. But that was smartly coupled with emotional complexity and a personality that developed throughout the show. Basically everything you could want out of a strong female character.

And her mom was smart AF

Kim’s mom was literally a neurosurgeon. I don’t think it get’s much more “women can do literally anything because they’re amazing” than that. And she wasn’t coupled with a major character flaw to ‘make up for the fact’ she was brilliant. Dr. Possible was also an amazing mom and funny character – proving we really CAN have it all.
