Trial will resume in Michelle Carter case, despite the defense asking for it to be ‘dropped’

She knew he was relying on her and said, ‘I love you, kill yourself’

Yesterday, the prosecution in the Michelle Carter Texting Suicide Case rested its case, arguing she pushed her boyfriend to commit suicide as a means of gaining attention for herself.

“Michelle Carter knew he was relying on her and said, ‘I love you, kill yourself,'” prosecutor Maryclare Flynn says. She wanted to be the “grieving girlfriend.”

Today, the defense asked for the case to be dropped.

In new texts that surfaced, prosecution argued not only was Carter complicit, but aggressive in pushing him.

“I don’t think I have it in me,” Roy texted Carter a week before police found him dead.

“I knew it,” Carter responded.

Defense argued in a video posted by Roy, the boyfriend, he was already on a downward spiral.

  • “I’ve created a monster the last few years because of depression and racing suicidal thoughts,” he says in the video. They say Roy was ready to take his own life, and because Carter cared about him she got dragged into it.

The judge has denied the defense’s request for the case to be dropped, and the trial will resume.
