Venus Williams just won the first round at Wimbledon and the press asked her about her bra

This morning, Venus Williams broke All-England Club rules by wearing a pink bra. This morning, Venus Williams also beat Elise Mertens in the first round at Wimbledon.

Of course, both of those things were brought up in her conference following the match.

It’s embarrassing enough she had to change mid match amid speculation officials had spoken to her about her bra, but to then berate her about it in the press conference following the match.

Despite the fact the All-England Club rules state only white can be worn, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen her (or her sister) asked inappropriate questions in a conference. If this were an isolated event and nobody had every mentioned attire to a female athlete before, maybe it would be different.

And it wasn’t just the bra. Williams was playing for the first time since being sued by the estate of a Florida man who died after a fatal car accident she was involved in in June, and they chose to bring that up at the conference as well.

Something else that has literally nothing to do with her tennis abilities.

Williams reportedly left the press conference in tears.

Maybe next time let’s stick to asking her about the game. Not her underwear or some traumatic event as a means of getting a rise out of her, just so we can comment on her being “emotional.”
