Jennifer Lawrence almost played Serena on Gossip Girl and it would have been so much better

She’s basically her in real life

After fucking her best friend's boyfriend, forcing another friend to overdose on cocaine, and leading on every guy she's ever come into contact with, nobody is calling Serena van der Woodsen aspirational.

Even Blake Lively, who played her on the original CW hit dramedy, said embodying her was “personally compromising,” and stopped being fun after a while.

That's why hearing that Jennifer Lawerence originally auditioned for the role, and was "bummed out" when she didn't get it, makes so much sense. The actress was 15 at the time.

Show creator Josh Schwartz says he doesn't remember seeing Lawrence's audition tape, but has been told she "definitely auditioned."

And while we don't know what's funnier — him having no idea she auditioned, or them missing out on the chance to cast a real life Serena — she would have been a superior van der Woodsen.

Serena has the model of a Vogue figure but claims to do nothing but eat

J Law's quirky "I bring fries to awards shows" attitude is exactly the kind of vibe Serena was always trying to put off: Flawed and human like the rest of us, even though she is literally nothing like the rest of us.

She was always munching on croissants in front of Blair, who she knew had an eating disorder, or laughing while strolling down the street deep throating cannolis like it was sexy or something.

She's the friend who always gets too fucked up at the pregame

After Lawrence's talk show stint last week in which she told the world about the time she violently attacked a fan who asked for a selfie in a bar, we're confident going out with her would be a lot to handle — and not in a fun-dancing-until-2-a.m. kind of way.

A lot like our favorite Upper East Sider.

She has no idea she annoys everyone

Serena is notorious for being entirely void of empathy. Not only does she not consider the repercussions for whatever awful thing she's about to do, but once she does it she can't believe people are bothered by it.

Kind of like how nobody really likes J Law, but we keep inviting her to award shows to spew offensive shit like her mouth is a garbage disposal that's been left on too long.

She doesn't have problems, so she just kind of makes them up

Serena was, similarly, always on about family issues — turning other people's actual problem into her own. Remember when she used her brother's attempted suicide as a spring board for getting accepted to an Ivy and making Dan feel bad for her?

Jennifer Lawrence, similarly, has so few problems there was a time when she kept making herself fall at award shows so she would have something to talk about when people asked her what she had to overcome to get herself to the place she is now.

But we all keep coming back to her anyway

Even after fucking Nate, Blair forgave Serena. Nate was consistently hung up on her, Dan tripped every time he saw her — even when he was dating someone else — and it was like no matter who she fucked over, or how hard she fucked them over, people would melt back into her and her nice hair.

Kind of like how we all keep rooting for J Law even though we think she's fake and kind of rude.

Because the show went on to be wildly successful, we doubt the creators are kicking themselves for not casting her, but she should have at least been considered.
