Tell your friend to hand over her phone because according to science you should choose her Tinder photos

We are not the best judge of ourselves

Girls are gorgeous. They're all uniquely beautiful and just really, really great. You love your friend. She truly looks like a flower. So why the hell can't she seem to steal a date with someone who doesn't wear jorts?

Probably because her featured Tinder photos include her while she was still rocking that haircut you told her not to get, another where her brother looks like her boyfriend, and maybe a third where she forgot VSCO existed and slapped a Hefe filter on it.

But now, you have an excuse to snatch it out of her hand and choose for her, because according to a new study, we all suck at choosing our own best photos.

The study, lead by researchers at UNSW, found people tend to get far more right swipes on their profiles when they feature pictures chosen by others, than they do when they use pictures they picked for themselves.

Students were asked to look through 12 photos of someone else and choose two for them. The students also chose two for themselves. When people subsequently swiped, they swiped right on the ones chosen by others.

Plus, now you can at least feel a bit better when you need to ask your friend to wait while you pull up the Facebook of that guy you've been seeing. "I swear there are better pictures of him!" He just didn't know how to choose them.

Finally. Vindication! You were right all along.
