What the actual fuck is Bella Hadid trying to do here?

Is it possible to die of secondhand cringe?

Yooo, my girl Bella Hadid did a hype-ass collab with her squad over at Complex where she spit game about the flyest kicks on the market and showed fans that she is really and truly out here fitted up!

In other words, Bella Hadid did an episode of Complex's Sneaker Shopping video series and sounded like a fucking narc the entire time.

"I think it's like the dopest thing you can wear with a dress," said Hadid of sneakers, a sentiment she reiterated throughout the nearly 8 minute long video.

  • During the episode, Hadid also points out her preferred sneakers on a man. "If homeboy is coming through with these, it's quiet, it's quiet for him," she said, meaning that… it's bad? I guess?

"But if he comes through in like these, you got some Air Maxes, you got some Jordans, homeboy's gonna like, get it," she elaborated. This statement was clearly a thinly veiled plug for Nike.

Are viewers actually supposed to believe that a pair of sneakers that retail for less than $200 are all it takes to seduce literal supermodel Bella Hadid? Nice try, homegirl.

The minute-long clip below, which contains the "Homeboy's gonna get it" exchange, is probably the most embarrassing segment:

For those keeping score at home, yes, she did say some variation of "dope" four times in less than 60 seconds.

And the icing on the cake is that Bella Hadid doesn't actually talk like that, or at least if she does, she doesn't talk like that on camera when she's fielding questions from reporters who work for publications that traditionally serve a whiter audience. Just watch her answer questions in a video short for Vogue Australia. Not a "homeboy" in sight:

  • People were quick to point out and make fun of Hadid's code-switching behavior, especially after the clip of her interview above went viral.

To Hadid's credit, she does seem to genuinely know a lot about sneakers. She says she already owns more than 200 pairs, and goes home with more than $1,000 worth of new shoes by the time the episode of Sneaker Shopping is over.

But she also calls designer Virgil Abloh a "real one" for sending her a pair of his custom sneakers which is irredeemably cringe-worthy, and definitely not dope.
