Hey, Blake Lively! Go fuck yourself!
You’re cashing in on other women’s pain, and I’m sick of it
Maybe it's unfair to single out Blake Lively, so I'll level the playing field now. Blake Lively, Rachel McAdams, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet, Kristen Stewart, Selena Gomez: Go fuck yourselves.
But especially Blake Lively, because she's playing both sides. It's clear she doesn't care about other women, only herself. Yesterday, she released a series of statements about Harvey Weinstein's avalanche of reported and admitted sexual assaults and harassments.
She put on her Convenient Feminist Hat (which I'm sure she shares Sisterhood-Of-The-Traveling-Pants-style with Taylor Swift) to indignantly condemn the assaults. She calls the reports "devastating to hear." She says it's "important women are furious right now" and that it's crucial to stay vigilant because mistreatment of women exists everywhere.
She told the Hollywood Reporter how important it is that "society is now listening to women."
Which is funny, because she certainly has no problem ignoring women when it's convenient for her.
Lively has a record of working with men accused of various sex crimes, some of which have been loudly circulating for literal decades.
It doesn't seem to bother her much at all. In fact, she's called it "empowering" before.
Earlier this year, she worked with accused child molester Woody Allen on his film Cafe Society. Allen's adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow spoke out about the alleged abused for the first time when she was 7 years old.
In 2014, she penned a heart-wrenching account of the events for The New York Times, in which she graphically described the man she called her father sticking his fingers in her mouth and laying his face in her naked lap and full-on assaulting her while she stared at an electric train set.
You can read the full story on The New York Times blog, and it's harrowing. Oh, and let's not forget about how he actually married the young adoptive daughter he raised for years. That's not weird at all!
And you know what Blake Lively said about working with Woody Allen despite the accusations?
"It's very dangerous to factor in things you don't know anything about," she said. "I could [only] know my experience. And my experience with Woody is he's empowering to women."
Funny, because I thought Lively was all about believing women. In fact, of Weinstein, she similarly said she hadn't experienced any misconduct with him but that assault "cannot happen, this should not happen, and it happens in every single industry."
And this isn't factoring her work with accused rapist Terry Richardson, or (despite what she may or may not have known), Harvey Weinstein. I can't speak to what she knew about his actions, but almost every other celebrity who's come forward with a Harvey encounter says everyone fucking knew.
So which is it, Blake? Do you believe women? Do you believe their accused abusers? Or do you believe whichever side is going to help your career that day? When women — powerful women — brush off these open secrets of abuse with a "Well, I don't know anything about that!" it silences the victims.
It's quite literally an admission of "I do not believe you, liar."
And this is not to shift blame off the men committing the actual crimes. No one is to blame for their disgusting actions other than the men who committed them.
But when you, as a woman, can know this happened to one of your own and ignore it and cozy up next to him on a red carpet, you're complicit.
When you read a child's story of sexual abuse by the man who raised her and choose to work with him anyway, you're complicit.
When you actively use your celebrity to silence women and advance your own career and line your own pockets, you're complicit.
So Blake Lively, and Kate Winslet, and everyone else choosing when and where to believe other women, go fuck yourselves. We don't need you on our side.

An Asian guy took an ancestry DNA test only to be told that he’s ‘100% Asian’
Surprise! You’re Asian!

Pretty much everyone I know has taken one of those ancestry DNA tests. And yeah, they're expensive but I can definitely see the appeal. The level of detail in the breakdowns — 56 percent Irish, 20 percent Balkan, 12 percent Iberian — isn't something you could get from a conversation with your grandma. And it's…

Eddie Scarry, a reporter at the Washington Examiner, recently came under fire for a tweet where he posted a photo of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's backside as she was walking, and wrote: "Hill staffer sent me this pic of Ocasio-Cortez they took just now.
