Katy Perry is also banned from China and can’t perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Her visa has been revoked following backlash

Chinese authorities have changed their mind and revoked Katy Perry's previously granted visa following backlash over her wearing the Taiwanese flag during a 2015 concert at Taipei Arena.

The 33-year-old singer was supposed to sing alongside Harry Styles for the show, but will no longer be in attendance.

According to a source, there was further backlash over her wearing a sunflower gown — symbolic of the Sunflower Student Movement — which protested a Chinese trade agreement in 2014.

"For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country," the source told the Mail. "Maroon 5 was banned a few years ago because one band member wished the Dalai Lama happy birthday on Twitter."

Just yesterday, model Gigi Hadid's visa was also revoked after a racist video surfaced featuring her, filmed by her sister Bella. In the video, she can be seen laughing and squinting her eyes while holding up a Buddha cookie.

Both of these announcements come after the fashion show was described by a number of outlets as an "international media crisis," and this morning reports surfaced of fans getting scammed by the show and purchasing tickets with prices as steep as $35k.
