A girl hanged herself after accidentally telling her boyfriend she cheated on him

‘Knowing you hate me is enough’

17-year-old Charlotte Guy was found dead after she accidentally snapped a cheating confession — meant for her friend — to her boyfriend, Jack Hurst, 20.

After realizing the mistake, she sent two more messages to Hurst, her boyfriend of two years, saying, "Goodbye. Please forgive me'' and ''I love you – knowing that you hate me is enough.”

Hurst, who was away at college at the time, called police immediately, using the Snapmap to figure out where Guy was. Her body was recovered hanging from a tree near St. John Rigby College in Wigan, Greater Manchester.

The tragedy occurred on September 24 last year, but much of the evidence surrounding the mixed messages was only just released.

In a statement, Hurst said, "We stayed in contact by text messages and phone calls but she got upset about something that somebody had said to her about a girl I was seeing before I met her.

"She told me that she felt like I had lied to her and I tried to convince her otherwise but she said she didn't want to be here anymore."

He said he was concerned because she'd made similar comments before about "feeling that the world wasn't meant for her."

He said he went to see her on Thursday September 21. "I spoke to her and she said she wanted to end the relationship," he said, adding she'd mentioned she "couldn't trust" him, but "wanted to stay friends." He said she went out that weekend with friends.

Hurst said they carried on texting and she told him she kissed someone else. On Sunday he said she asked him to talk and he told her he was busy. After, he said she sent him the snap that was meant for her friend. "The Snapchat referenced her sleeping with someone on the Saturday night," he said. She immediately told him it wasn't for him, apologized and called herself a "horrible person."

She asked to talk on the phone and he told her to text him if she wanted to explain herself. "At 5.11pm I got a long text message from her starting with 'ok I think I get the point,'" he said.

The message concerned him and he tried calling her but got another message from her that said "It doesn't matter. Goodbye. Please forgive me." The last message he got from her said, "I love you, knowing that you hate me is enough."

Guy's inquest heard she'd taken cocaine while under the influence almost immediately before dying.
