This Instagram trend is the most extra thing I’ve seen this year

Do you guys believe aliens exist? I totally do. In fact, I have a strong belief that they've visited us and only the rich and powerful know about it. Why? I'll explain.

The latest trends of 2018 are totally alien inspired. Everyone out there is trying to look interstellar. Between the crazy colored hair, glitter obsessed make-up looks, and Star Trek inspired outerwear, fashion right now is other-wordly. Cyborg chic is in, and I'm going to teach you how to secure the look. Don't believe me this is a thing?

The Kardashian trip to Tokyo is a perfect example of 2018's mandatory back-to-the-future aesthetic. Kim has been wearing pink hair with Yeezy season 7 pieces that basically look like parts of a spacesuit. All the grays + pastels scream galaxy to me.

But it's not just the Kardashian's making alien fashion a thing. Fashion month was obsessed with space this season. Like, Louis Vuitton landed a fucking space ship on their runway just to prove how much we're all trying to be aliens rn.

Everyone's emulation of aliens is definitely proof they exist. But sadly, not all of us can hail our supreme overlords with Yeezy or Louis Vuitton. How can you get the alien look? There's 4 out of this world trends to follow this year: Glitter, galaxy lips, metallics, and neon. Here's how.

Glitter

Glitter was easily one of the biggest trends of Fashion Month. Like, don't tell me you didn't see the Giambattista models that were turned into disco balls on the runway.

And makeup companies are jumping on board the trend, which means it's here to stay and worth your $$$. MAC just announced they'll be launching new Glitter Pigments which are safe to use on your body or in your hair.

The glitter is $22, and can be used to brighten up an eye or an updo.

Glossier has also just released a new glittery makeup. The long-awaited Lidstar was first worn by Beyonce to the 2018 Grammy's then was worn all over the Oscars red carpet. It's available to us peasantry now for $30.

Even Kylie has been hopping on the glitter train.

Her new Weather Collection includes two shimmery eyeshadow palettes at $40 a pop.

And four Glitter Eyes liquid eyeshadows for $40 for two.

But it's not just your eyes that should be glittery. In case you've been living under a rock, you know highlighter is the hot way to get a natural glow that's ~out of this world~.

This moon inspired kit by Anastasia Beverly Hills is literally called Moonchild. It's the perfect product for 2018 and it's only $40 at Sephora. Not bad for six highlighters.

But you could also go with an old classic, Glossier's Haloscope. The highlighter all the cool girls you know use. It's $22, but hella worth it if you're tryna ~glow~.

Galaxy Lips

Glitter wasn't just painted all over model's faces this month…it was also slathered all over their lips. Galaxy lips were totally in at Fashion Month. Just look at this style done for Maison Margiela's Paris Fashion Week show.

The trend has been taking over Instagram too, with MAC posting multiple tutorials to make your transformation to whole-ass alien complete.

There are lots of lip products to get the glittery galaxy look without going full-on ombre or drawing stripes on your fucking face.

First, there's Fenty's Starlit Hyper-Glitz Lipstick. It's $19, but it's totally worth it because your coins are going right to Rihanna.

If you're looking for slightly crazier colors or more of a glossy look, Ciate London's Glitter Flip, exclusive at Sephora, is the look for you.

Metallic Clothes

Another alien-inspired look that's in this season? Metallic clothes. Shiny, glittery clothes in primary colors covered the runway during fashion week.

Along with silver sparkles, spikes, and lots of metal.

Honestly, we should've known the alien-look was coming given Bella Hadid's unnaturally beautiful face and figure in this see-through metallic dress.

But if you still think the metallic look is too haute couture, take note that the Kardashian's have been wearing it too.

We can't all go around wearing metal spikes on our heels or rocking metallic biker shorts with heels like Kim K., but you can fit some sci-fi inspired metallics into your everyday wardrobe pretty easy with these looks:

Or if you're down to go full cyborg, try these chain link jeans ($160).

Metallics are even easier to bring out at night. For a night at the bar, try a sparkly dress like this one from Urban Outfitters ($69).

You can add a shiny metallic bodysuit to your wardrobe for only $18 at Forever 21.

And if you really want to embrace the alien trend, try out some sparkly star tights like these ($16).

And lots and lots of neon

Another trend inspired by sci-fi movies that's been on the runway is neon. Chanel showed off lots of neon accessories at Paris Fashion Week.

And Bella Hadid has shown some major love for the trend both on stage…

… and off.

But it's not just models decked out in Chanel that are wearing the trend. Kim's obviously been wearing her pink hair with pride, and has been pairing her Yeezy with neon basics.

If you're feeling really dedicated to the trend, you could dye your hair neon pink. But if not, we have some easy ways you can work neon into your everyday wardrobe.

Neons tend to look super tacky if they're overdone. They look most casual on athleteleisure. And adding bold stripes or numbers to your sweatshirt or track pants adds that Star Trek vibe instead of making your neons look like 2007 Jersey Shore.
