JK Rowling just liked some very transphobic tweets, and then blamed it on being ‘clumsy and old’
‘Trans women have no right to take women’s place in politics’
JK Rowling just favorited a few extremely transphobic Tweets on a platform where she regularly posts to 14.3 million followers, and now her rep is blaming it on being "clumsy" and "middle-aged."
Since finishing the Harry Potter series, Rowling's had a little too much time to spend being crazy on Twitter. People regularly make jokes about her shitty web presence, but this week it got really bad.
"Trans women have no right to take women’s place in politics," read one of the Tweets Rowling favorited, implying Trans women are, by default, not women.
“Men in dresses get brocialist solidarity,” another one read, "I never had that.”
JK Rowling has since un-favorited all of the Tweets, but screenshots are forever.
"Don't ignore this like I know we all so desperately want to," one Twitter user said, encouraging her followers to read the original tweeter's reply.
Of course, Harry Potter super fans are coming to her aid
"JK Rowling is not a terf just because she liked two tweets that weren't even terfy to begin with."
"I just saw people retweeting a claim that JK Rowling is a terf. WHAT IS LIFE EVEN??"
But a few others called her out
Following the backlash on Twitter, Rebecca Salt, who represents Rowling, said, "I’m afraid JK Rowling had a clumsy and middle-aged moment," adding that this is " not the first time she has favorited by holding her phone incorrectly."
This seems… suspect. Rowling has invested hours and hours of her time in recent years composing tweets that re-interpret her characters as woke idols. Since she joined the site, she has favorited more than 19,000 tweets. Do we believe that she still hasn’t figured out what the different buttons mean? Ok, JK. Whatever you say.
