Azealia Banks says she was drugged and ‘lowkey just got raped’ on her Instagram story

‘I just feel so dirty and stupid right now’

Azealia Banks has been through a lot in a uniquely public way. From her entrance into the public eye in 2011 with smash hit "212" to her career-stunting Twitter feuds to the whole chicken thing, Banks's story has played out in front of everyone, for better or worse — which makes her most recent announcement so heartbreaking.

This weekend, Banks posted a series of since-deleted videos on her Instagram story, which she says she filmed after she was drugged and raped.

The videos are stream-of-consciousness audio clips where the rapper recounts her feelings while she sobs. "I'm gonna delete all my accounts because I'm just embarrassed," she said through tears. "I just feel really broken down."

You can watch her story in this Youtube video below, but be aware that it is extremely hard to listen to:

  • Banks's sentiments sound familiar to anyone who has experienced sexual assault — worthlessness, anger, helplessness, and the sense that somehow the fact that she was taken advantage of is her fault.

Banks released a new single, "Anna Wintour", just 10 days prior to the writing of this article, and many people were excited to see the return of the troubled but undeniably talented artist.

Her newest album, Fantasea II: The Second Wave, was slated to drop in June. But in her Instagram story, Banks said that she no longer wants to release more music. "I just feel like a dumbass," she said. "I just want to disappear. I don't think I'm going to be putting out more music."

But since she first posted about her assault on Saturday, Banks has not deleted her account, and has posted on her Instagram story that she is in better spirits and "smiling again."

"It's crazy. Men have all kinds of ulterior motives," she said in an Instagram story posted on Sunday. "Men are really a threat to women."
