Benedict Cumberbatch says he won’t take roles unless his female co-stars are paid equally

Dr. Strange is doing the right thing

Benedict Cumberbatch has said he will not take roles unless his female co-stars are paid equally to his male co-stars. He revealed in an interview that he believes equal pay is a "central tenet of feminism" and one he can play a role in.

He believes equal pay implementation in Hollywood is simple. "Ask what women are being paid, and say: 'If she's not paid the same as the men, I'm not doing it," he told Radio Times.

However, he doesn't think equality in film ends with salary. He has also expressed his dedication to female-led projects. He says his new production company almost entirely women. And their next project? According to the star, it's "a female story with a female lens about motherhood, in a time of environmental disaster."

Looks like Dr. Strange is into doing the right thing. But this battle for pay equality in Hollywood might be tougher than the Infinity War. Just saying. The patriarchy runs deep.
