Here’s what the Parkland teen activists have to say about the shooting at Santa Fe High School

‘We are fighting for you’

Law enforcement officers apprehended a suspected shooter in the wake of a deadly incident at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas on Friday morning. At least 8 people — and potentially up to 10 — were killed in the incident, with others reportedly hospitalized.

Students told CBS News that the shooting took place in the high school's art hall and the gunman was wielded a shotgun and wore a black trench coat. This school shooting is the 22nd to take place in 2018.

When it comes to gun control, student activists are more vocal than ever before, especially those from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, some of whom became the face of gun control for both sides of the aisle.

Here are what those teenagers have to say about the deadliest shooting since their own Parkland, Florida high school was attacked.

Emma González

Emma González is one of the most prominent student activists to have survived the Parkland school shooting. She is best known for her public speaking skills, her organizing work with March for Our Lives, and her badass haircut.

Alex Wind

Alex is one of the cofounders of the Never Again MSD activist group, spoke at the March for Our Lives protest in Washington, D.C. and was pictured on the cover of Time Magazine along with four other student activists.

Cameron Kasky

Cameron Kasky is another cofounder of Never Again MSD who famously asked Senator Marco Rubio whether or not he'd refuse donations from the NRA — a question the Florida senator failed to answer.

Sarah Chadwick

Sarah Chadwick is another student leader involved in Never Again MSD who is known for tweeting sick burns like: "We should change the names of AR-15s to "Marco Rubio" since they are so easy to buy."

Delaney Tarr

Delaney Tarr is a student journalist and activist who spoke at the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C. and advocated voting out politicians who refused to take gun control seriously.

Kyra Parrow

Kyra Parrow is a student activist and photographer who wrote in TIME Magazine about skipping school the day of the Parkland shooting and using photography as a tool for healing from the pain it caused her community.

David Hogg

David Hogg is a student activist best known for speaking out publicly and repeatedly on the necessity for gun control, and for the backlash he has received from right-wing media, who called him a crisis actor. Pundit and dog-whistler Laura Ingraham famously mocked Hogg for his reported college rejections and was forced to apologize.

Sofie Whitney

Sofie Whitney is a student activist who wrote in Glamour about how she and other teenagers want — and need — to be supported by adults as they advocate for legislative change.

Jaclyn Corin

Jaclyn Corin is a student activist and leader in the Never Again MSD movement who spoke at the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C. She also appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine — barefoot. Power move.

There's no doubt that more school shooting survivors and Never Again MSD supporters will be speaking up about the shooting at Santa Fe High School soon — but when will teenagers no longer need to pour out their pain and trauma on social media in order to make politicians pay attention? Stay tuned.
