Lorde compared her friendship with Taylor Swift to ‘having a disease’

Lorde, please don’t become my problematic fave. I love you and don’t want to get into Twitter fights defending you. In a very specific but marginally offensive metaphor, Lorde compared her friendship with Taylor Swift to being friends with someone who has “very specific allergies” or “an autoimmune disease.” OK….

“There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship,” Lorde told The Guardian. “It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”

Like, girl. I see where you’re going with this. Truly! But somehow, I don’t think being the most famous woman on earth and having like, Lupus or another autoimmune disease are the same thing. So maybe don’t say that?

She also touched on fame as a bonding element of their friendship.

“It’s an element of wanting to stick together,” she continued. “Because it can be so scary to do this. These friendships, they’re about having a hand put on your shoulder by someone who knows. They’re about hearing, ‘I’ve done it, too.'”
