Here’s exactly how much your single ass spends on shitty dates every year

You could afford bottomless brunch for days

You may think avoiding a long term relationship is saving you money — fewer movie dates, a lot less eating out and Valentine’s Day is a breeze because there’s no need to splurge. But according to a Match survey of 5,500 singles around the country, we’ve officially been played.

The average single American spends $1,600 on their dating life each year

That’s about $135 a month, or $33 a week — and forget it if you’re a serial dater.

Of course the number fluctuates. For example, in cities the average is higher, reaching $1,800 in Washington, and just over $2,000 in New York. But even when you consider it in comparative terms, the rate for dating is steep, especially for young people just entering the job market.

Whether you live in a college town and are spending $400 a month on rent or are living in an urban setting and shelling out $1,000, $1,600 is a good chunk anywhere.

Maybe you split a place with a bunch of friends, and rent is less of an issue for you, BUT!

You could attend 53 $30 bottomless brunches — that’s one a week

Just consider all of the mimosas you and your girlfriends are missing out on, while listening to some guy drone on about Star Wars over a check you’ll end up splitting anyway.

The disparity in gender is smaller than you might think

Women: $1,423

Men: $1,855

Half of men in the survey said men should pay on dates, worried if a woman paid it meant she wasn’t interested. And apparently they’re right. Although Millennials are far more likely to offer to split the check than Generation Xers or Baby Boomers, it’s not because we’re finally making the same amount of money.

78 percent of women said they split the check because they didn’t want to feel obligated to get physical

What that means is, before dating, consider if it’s really on the top of your list of priorities. If it is, then the money you spend will in some way be countered by the contentment it brings you. But, if clubbing or splurging at thrift stores is more your speed, you’d have a lot of change to spare if you hit the breaks on Tinder.
