Women can’t go sleeveless in the House and it’s bullshit

Republicans are more concerned about women’s shoulders than their rights

Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, has some rules on what women can and cannot wear on the House floor.

According to CBS, a female reporter tried to enter the Speaker’s lobby, an area journalists often go to get interviews, and she was not allowed inside because her sleeveless dress was considered inappropriate.

In a desperate attempt to get inside, the young reporter took notebook paper and stuffed them under her dress straps, but this was still not good enough.

Other reporters have had similar experiences. Haley Byrd, a reporter for Independent Journal Review, told CBS on the day the House passed the Republican health care bill that she was kicked out of the Speaker’s lobby for wearing a sleeveless dress.

The rule that women must wear “appropriate attire,” is vague, so it is the job of the Speaker to decide what appropriate means.

Because the Speaker is Paul Ryan, a man who is very afraid of women’s shoulders and toes, “appropriate” means women cannot wear sleeveless dresses and blouses or open-toed shoes when they are in the Speaker’s lobby.

People are pissed about the recent enforcement of this rule, especially because Ivanka Trump has been seen in the Speaker’s lobby wearing *gasp* a sleeveless dress.

Apparently Ivanka can wear a sleeveless dress for the State of the Union

And neither does his daughter

Apparently this dress code isn’t anything new, but has only been brought to light following the recent events.

Either way, it’s still bullshit.
