Half of women getting abortions are using contraception, proving it’s not as effective as you think

Including hormonal forms like the pill and IUD

Avoiding hormonal methods of contraception, despite being a point of contention between many women and OBGYNs, has become more widely practiced in recent years.

With so many alternative options available, and so much more information about our bodies ready at the click of a button, it’s become less taboo to avoid oral contraceptives like the pill.

Plus, between bloating, mood swings and missed periods, it’s no wonder we’ve turned elsewhere.

But, a new study conducted by a Pregnancy Advisory Service has debunked the myth that using forms of contraception, both hormonal and non hormonal, is an effective way to avoid pregnancy.

They say 14,000 women using their abortion services, became pregnant despite using the pill or other forms of contraception. That’s 51.2 percent of the women using their clinics during the duration of the study.

Despite the fact condoms are meant to be 82 percent effective, that’s only when they are put on correctly, and don’t break or move during sex.

And despite claims of the pill to be 99.9 percent effective, 24.1 percent of women who had abortions using these clinics were using hormonal forms of contraception, like the pill, implant, IUD or coil.
