Michelle Obama speaks out for the first time about facing racism in the White House

‘We’re living with cuts, and bleeding every single day’

While speaking at the Women’s Foundation of Colorado’s 30th anniversary celebration, former FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, opened up publicly for the first time about how racism affected her while in the White House.

“The shards that cut me the deepest were the ones that intended to cut,” she said while addressing the audience.

“Knowing that after eight years of working really hard for this country, there are still people who won’t see me for what I am because of my skin color.”

Following Trump’s announcement this morning about the exclusion of trans people in the military, it’s obvious leadership in our country is failing us at this point in time, and isolating minorities in a way we haven’t seen rooting from the White House in years now.

With the Obama’s in the White House, there was some sense, albeit small, of those same minority groups gaining some kind of ground in the political landscape of this country.

But Michelle explains the amount of ground was an illusion, even as the First Lady.

“We endure those cuts in so many ways that we don’t even notice we’re cut. We are living with small tiny cuts, and we are bleeding every single day. And we’re still getting up.”
